Sustainable Communities Need Sustainable Biomaterials

Powerpoint Presentation by Brenda Platt
Global Plastics Environmental Conference (GPEC)
Orlando, Florida, February 27, 2009

What’s wrong with fossil-fuel-based plastics? Are biomaterials sustainable? What policies and market-based strategies can help spur the introduction and use of biomaterials that are truly sustainable from cradle to cradle? What does truly sustainable mean? This presentation addresses these issues, and discusses the work of the Sustainable Biomaterials Collaborative, and introduces Working Landscape Certificates and the development of criteria for sustainable bioplastics.
